I found a drain kit at home depot that has a plastic l shaped rod connector as part of the kit. Unscrew the pivot rod retaining nut with a pair of channel type pliers or an adjustable wrench. I attached the connector with hose clamps since the rods in the kit were slightly larger than my brushed nickel rods. Make sure the pivot rod opening faces the back of the sink.

However it was still too short to be an effective pull rod for our kohler archer sink moen faucet. Angle the pivot rod downward until the drain stopper pops up to its highest position in the sink basin. Using the channel lock pliers tighten two to three additional rotations.
